LCAD strives to support students of any age and experience level. We specialises in small class sizes and individual tutorial based learning to ensure that students have the opportunity not only to develop specific skills but to experiment with different art-making modes in order to discover or refine their creative oeuvre. Through an inclusive and welcoming environment we encourage students to connect with their classmates in order to enrich their learning journey and contribute to the rich cultural fabric of our campus and local community.

Life on campus

Based in Collingwood, LCAD is conveniently located close to the city centre of Melbourne and important cultural and food precincts such as Carlton and Fitzroy. Our studio based facilities have been designed to maximise one on one tutoring while providing creative flexibility for students. Within this intimate setting our staff deliver a specialised combination of theory and practical skills that encourage our students to be creative, innovative and to think independently.

A liveable city

Melbourne continues to shine, and the Global Liveability Index has ranked it in the top three since the index began in 2002. Melbourne has achieved the number one ranking in 10 out of 18 years and has been ranked as the top Australian city every year. Since 2002, Melbourne’s overall score has risen steadily and now sits at 98.4, scoring perfect 100s for Healthcare, Education and Infrastructure and near perfect scores for Stability (95) and Culture and Environment (98.6).

Restaurants, cafes & pubs

Collingwood is home to an incredible array of iconic restaurants, cafés and pubs. Long revered as Melbournes home of light industry the suburb has transformed over the past 10 years to be a gastronomic playground for the city's culinary gastronomes. Home to leading restaurants such as Wabi Sabi Salon, Rosella and Easey's to world class cafe's such as Proud Mary, Paporica and Smith Street Alimentari, LCAD provides and exciting opportunity to explore the best the suburb has to offer.

Cultural hub

In Melbourne you'll discover a city buzzing with dynamic and cutting-edge arts and culture. Book seats for a show in the East End Theatre District, Melbourne's hub of historic theatres hosting world-class stage and musical productions. Head to the Southbank precinct – where the The Arts Centre, MTC, Malthouse, Recital Centre and the National Gallery of Victoria form Melbourne's beating cultural heart.

Parks & gardens

LCAD is situated close to many of Melbourne's most beautiful parks and gardens. Students can take a break from the hectic pace of the city and enjoy floral displays, manicured lawns, ancient elms, cooling fountains and heritage architecture and iconic Royal Botanic Gardens, Treasury Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens, Flagstaff Gardens, Carlton Gardens and Alexandra Gardens.

World class events

A whole world of events awaits you in Melbourne. Whatever the season, the city is buzzing with theatre, exhibitions, concerts, festivals and sporting events. Drawing guests from across Australia and around the globe, Melbourne's busy events calendar is on the doorstep of LCAD.

History & heritage

The area now known as Melbourne is close to rich food sources in Port Phillip and the surrounding grasslands, and had long been occupied by Kulin clans and their five Aboriginal language groups by the time of early white settlement. Melbourne is home to a number of outstanding and architecturally significant National Trust homes and museums, as well as historically significant parks and gardens.

Outdoor adventure

When it comes to outdoor activities, LCAD students are spoiled for choice. Whether it's golf or boating, tennis or Tai Chi, Melbourne has plenty of things to see and do outdoors to suit your interests and lifestyle. Stroll along the boardwalk in St Kilda or go for a dip at one of the many Melbourne beaches. Cruise down the Yarra on a boat tour or catch the ferry across to Williamstown for a day of fishing.
